It’s Weirdo Friends Day!

Welcome to another wacky, totally fictional interview of a ‘Weirdo Friend.’ Today’s story features Randaru Rebnitch, sun photographer. (Video of this interview is coming soon…)

We met Randaru a few weeks ago and learned her big dream is to be a ‘sun photographer.’ Before she started playing The Champion Creator Game, she had never actually taken a picture of any sunrises or sunsets like she dreamed of doing.

Let’s check in with her on Day 30 of the game and see if she’s learned anything about how to live her dreams.

*****

RANDARU: Check it out. I just took a picture. A real picture. Cause I do that now. I take actual pictures with my actual camera. I took of the sunrise this morning. Taking a real picture of a sunrise was my Day 30 goal for the Rookie Season, and I hit my goal!

Bonnie Jean: Day 30? Rookie Season? What are you talking about?

RANDARU: Oh, I’m talking about The Champion Creator Game. The Rookie Season takes 90 days to play, and you start by setting goals for the things you want to do by day 30, day 60 and day 90. My day 30 goal was to take a picture of a sunrise. And I did! My day 60 goal is to take a picture of a sunset.

Bonnie Jean: Why are you going to keep playing The Champion Creator Game?

RANDARU: It’s fun! It does take 15 minutes a day to play the missions, but by exploring my passion, I’m learning how to believe in myself and my dreams. I used to just dream about being a sun photographer because I didn’t believe I could be good at taking pictures of sunrises and sunsets. Now I’m actually taking pictures because it’s what I love to do!

*****

We’ll check back in with Randaru in several weeks to see if she’s able to hit her Day 60 goal. She does have a few weird quirks (which you’ll be able to see in the video of the interview that’s coming soon), but as long as she follows through with the missions, she’ll be able to find a way to do what she dreams.

Weird quirks or not, you can find a way to do what you dream, too. Life is really much more fun when you set goals and take action to make them happen. So…

Join the Dream Doer League. Play The Champion Creator Game. And DO what you DREAM!

To Your Dreams,
Bonnie Jean

P.S. Stay tuned for details about how you can play The Champion Creator Game. (‘Randaru’ may be made up, but the game is REAL!) Until then, enjoy listening to the entire bestselling young adult novel The Dream Doers and the Summer of Secrets by clicking here!

Welcome to another edition of Unshakable, Unbreakable, Unstoppable Stories with Bonnie Jean.

Ever had a secret dream? But when you had a chance to live that secret dream, you froze?

I had one of those moments in the sixth grade. It started when I had to memorize the Hippocratic Oath and recite it in front of my sixth grade class.

When I got the assignment, I was so excited about the chance to stand up in front of my class and speak. That was my secret dream: speaking and performing in front of people.

I had that Oath memorized backwards and forwards. I practiced and practiced and practiced so that I could recite it without even thinking and make something that uninteresting be entertaining so my audience would want to listen.

The day of the speech finally came. I was nervous, but I knew I was ready. I stood up and stared at the dozens of pairs of eyes staring back at me. Then quiet little me started speaking.

I delivered it perfectly, just like I had practiced. Everyone clapped when I finished, and I loved that feeling. Even my teacher was smiling.

A few days later, the entire sixth grade class in the school gathered for ‘Greek day.’ I’m not sure how many kids there were altogether, but between the three or four different classrooms, there had to be close to a hundred.

Anyway, as all the kids were gathering in the gym dressed in their togas, my teacher told me that because I did such a good job with the Oath, she wanted me to recite it in front of everyone. Right then. Right there. In just a few minutes.

Being an obedient student, I nodded, affirming that I would do it. But I wasn’t prepared to speak in front of such a large audience. I wasn’t mentally ready. Perhaps if she had given me some warning the day before, I could have practiced and been ready to face everyone my age.

Shortly after everyone took their seats, I went up to the podium after my teacher introduced me, looked out at the crowd and started speaking. I got through the first line. And the second. Then my mind went blank. Completely, totally, 100% blank.

I couldn’t remember the next word. Or the next. Or any other words of the oath. I stood there, frozen, not saying anything. Not blinking. Not breathing. Nothing. When I realized the speech was lost to me, I looked at my teacher, told her I forgot the words and sat down, completely embarrassed and humiliated.

The worst part was that I let my teacher down. She believed in me enough to give the quiet girl in her class the chance to live her dream, and I blew it. From then on through college, I hated standing in front of a live audience because I was afraid I would freeze again and not remember what I was going to say.

I kept beating myself up over that one moment and convinced myself I was a horrible speaker who hated getting up in front of crowds. Deep down, my dream still existed, but I kept it buried to save me from further embarrassment.

What I should have done was learn from my mistake so that I could be better the next time. That’s how I would have gained confidence.

Confidence in something you’re good at comes from repetition. I let one bad experience keep me from living my dream.

Don’t do what I did. Don’t give up on your dreams just because you don’t succeed right away.

You have to start somewhere, and most people start being really bad at something before they have a chance to be really good.

When you learn what you’re better at than anyone else, that is the foundation of your unshakable confidence.

To Your Dreams,
Bonnie Jean

P.S. Please don’t wait as long as I did to find your unshakable confidence! Life is really much more fun when you set goals and take action to make them happen. No matter how old you are, you can be an unshakable, unbreakable, unstoppable Dream Doer today! It’s Find a Way to Do What You Dream Day!

Finding a way to do what you dream starts with you being a person of great character. Being a person of great character involves being trustworthy, being passionate and being focused.

To be trustworthy, passionate and focused, you must develop 12 core ‘champion’ traits. So last week, we talked about the first part of being trustworthy and the most important character trait: living with INTEGRITY.

Today we’re going to build on that and talk about being CONSISTENT.

Why should you depend on your consistency?

When you become the kind of person who makes a habit of setting goals and taking action to achieve your goals, you can always depend on yourself to find a way to do what you dream. That is what being a Champion Dream Doer is all about.

What is consistency?

Consistency is being reliable, dependable and persistent.

People know what to expect from you day in and day out. You know what you expect from yourself day in and day out.

You develop habits that improve your life every day, positive habits based on the trait of integrity.

Warning!!! It’s also possible to develop negative habits that take you farther away from your dreams, habits like setting goals but doing nothing about them.

How can you depend on your consistency?

To help you develop good, consistent habits, ask yourself these questions:

  1. Who can you always depend on to help you when you need help, take care of you when you need taken care of and listen to you when you need to talk? How does that person’s consistency make you feel?
  2. Who are you not sure you can depend on to help you when you need help? How does that person’s inconsistency make you feel?
  3. How do you know you can depend on yourself to follow through with your goals?

What can you do NOW to be consistent?

To learn how to be consistent, start by creating a ‘morning success habit’ for yourself. What same actions can you do every morning to make sure you get your day started right?

For example, what time do you get up? What do you do right after you get up? What do you do next?

As part of your morning success habit, write down one thing you can do sometime that day to take you closer to your dreams. Then DO it!

By setting up positive Dream Doer habits like this, you’ll be able to depend on your consistency as you find a way to do what you dream.

In next week’s post, we’ll talk about the third champion trait you need to develop to follow Dream Doer Rule #2: LEAD by example.

Until next time, remember that you always find a way to do what you dream when you stick to your strengths.

To Your Dreams,
Bonnie Jean

Welcome to another edition of “Behind the Scenes of The Dream Doers Series.”

The Dream Doers and the Summer of Secrets begins on the last day of sixth grade for Alex and Tyler and class bully Zach. But today’s flashback story continues a short series of the first day of kindergarten for Alex, Tyler and Zach.

*****

She couldn’t go to school. She just couldn’t. Why would her mom be so mean and make her go?

Alexandria Wilkins rolled over and stuffed her face in her pillow. School was a horrible, horrible place. She wouldn’t go. She just wouldn’t.

Zach would be there. All the time. That teacher wasn’t going to let her hide from him.

He was going to be able to bother her whenever he wanted. And everybody always believed him. They never believed her when she told them how mean he was.

She was the only one who knew the truth.

What if she went to school one day and never came back? Zach might lock her in a closet…or tie her to a tree in the woods near the school.

She’d be stuck out there forever with nothing to eat and nowhere to sleep. Her parents would try to find her, but they wouldn’t know where to look.

Her mom would cry and cry. He dad wouldn’t want to work anymore. They wouldn’t have any money for food. Her brothers and sister would starve. And everyone would wonder what happened to poor little Alex.

The tears squeezed out of her closed eyelids and soaked her pillow. She really wished her mom wouldn’t make her go to school!

“Alex, get up. You get to go to school today!” Her sister Jessie burst into her room and threw the comforter off Alex. “I know the perfect outfit for you to wear.”

Alex ignored her older sister and held on to her pillow. She didn’t want to look at Jessie. Not today.

“This white top with this pink skirt is sooo adorable,” Jessie said. “These sandals are the perfect match. After I get done with your hair, there won’t be a boy in that class who won’t have a kindergarten crush on you. Too bad mom won’t let me put make-up on you. Too bad she won’t let me put make-up on me. I’m 13 now. I think I’m old enough. Alex, what are you still doing in bed?”

When Alex didn’t move, Jessie rolled Alex over and took the pillow away from her.

“Give me back my pillow. I’m not going to school.” Alex reached for the pillow, but Jessie pulled her out of bed instead.

“You don’t have to be scared,” Jessie said.

Yes, I do, Alex thought. But Jessie wouldn’t understand. Nobody understood.

“I don’t know why I have to go. I’ve already learned how to read. That’s all you learn in kindergarten anyway.”

“You don’t go to school to learn. You go to school to make friends.”

“I don’t want any friends. I’m fine all by myself.”

“You’re just being silly. What about that Zach kid? The one who lives a few blocks over? He’s a charmer. He’s in your class, isn’t he?”

“He’s not charming. He’s mean. And I won’t go to school as long as I have to be around him.”

Alex started crying again and dove back under her covers.

It’s Weirdo Friends Day!

Welcome to another wacky, totally fictional interview of a ‘Weirdo Friend.’ Today’s story features lulilulelindia verickent, grammarnotarian. (Video of this interview is coming soon…)

We met Luli a few weeks ago and learned her big dream is to be a ‘travel around the world person.’ Before she started playing The Champion Creator Game, she was a Grammarnotarian who didn’t believe in capitalization or punctuation.

Let’s check in with her on Day 30 of the game and see if she’s learned anything about how to live her dreams. Remember, she doesn’t like punctuation or capitalization, so her quotes might look a little strange…

*****

lulilulelindia hey there lulilulelindia verickent again remember me im a grammarnotarian but not capitalizing words and not using punctuation seriously hasnt gotten in the way of me playing the champion creator game

Bonnie Jean: But don’t you have to write down answers to questions to complete the missions?

lulilulelindia yeah duh the missions are seriously all about answering questions that help you develop champion traits of integrity and passion and focus seriously but since i get to choose to do the missions on my own and nobodys telling me I have to or grading me on my work I can seriously choose to answer the questions however I want

Bonnie Jean: Why do you think developing the Champion Traits are important?

lulilulelindia seriously youre asking me cool okay here goes when you learn how to be honest and to express your passion and to stay focused you learn to believe in yourself and your dreams

Bonnie Jean: Do you honestly believe your big dream is possible?

lulilulelindia since ive been developing integrity i honestly have to say no thats only because im not passionate about my big dream of being a travel around the world person i seriously have to figure out what i am passionate about

which is why im seriously going to keep playing the champion creator game the missions will help me find a dream i can believe in thats based on stuff im seriously great at i mean i seriously didnt even realize i had stuff im great at until i started playing this game

hey are you playing the game yet you seriously should youll have fun learning how to be a really cool person

*****

We’ll check back in with Lulilulelindia in a few weeks to see if she’s able to figure out what her big dream is.

So…
