What are You Passionate About?

Your Dream Doer Mission:  Find a Way to DO What You Dream Today

Yesterday I had trouble focusing while writing my novel, so before I started writing today, I took a little time to think about what I’m passionate about and why I even enjoy writing.

Here’s where my thoughts took me:  I am passionate about writing fiction.  When I write fiction, it’s like I can transport myself to another place and see into the minds of other people.  I get to feel what they’re feeling and hear what they’re hearing.  It’s just a fun process.

That’s what I forgot about yesterday.  The process.  I was thinking so much about what I wanted to get done that I forgot I enjoy doing the work it takes to get the results I want!

Although I didn’t start writing until 10:00pm tonight because of a busy day, I was much more focused and had much more fun writing today.  I ended up writing five pages in 37 minutes because I was passionate about what I was doing, and that helped me concentrate my complete attention on the task at hand.

So what are you passionate about?  And did you find a way to express your passion today?

Bonnie Jean

Do You Have Trouble Focusing?

Your Dream Doer Mission:  Find a Way to DO What You Dream Today

I completed my mission by spending an hour writing my novel tonight.  I wrote five pages and 1,482 words in that hour.  But I’m not thrilled with my results because I know I could have done better.

Here’s why.  I didn’t give 100% of my attention to my writing tonight.  I kept thinking about random things that happened earlier today or things I wanted to do tomorrow.  I didn’t concentrate all my attention on the task at hand.

In other words, I just went through the motions of writing rather than doing the very best I was capable of doing.

At least I know what I need to work on tomorrow:  FOCUS!

Besides, writing is more fun when I’m focused.  When I’m focused, I feel energized and excited as I write.  I also feel like I’m a part of the story I’m writing.  I missed that feeling today.

What about you?  Did you find a way to do something about your dreams today?  Were you focused?  Did you give 100% of your attention to your goal, or did you let your mind wander in a million different directions like I did?

How can you be better tomorrow?

To your dreams,
Bonnie Jean

Your Dreams Are Your Choice

Your Dream Doer Mission:  Find a Way to DO What You Dream Today

Today was just a regular, ordinary day.  I went to work, came home, did a workout.  Nothing special.  Then I did some reading to learn more about how to set and achieve goals.  (Learning is so much fun!)

After a late dinner, I finally buckled down and spent an hour writing my book.  I wrote six pages in that hour and got to exactly the place in the story I wanted to get to.

I didn’t have to write today.  Nobody told me I had to write a certain amount of words or a certain amount of pages.  Nobody is checking up on me to see if hit my writing goal.  Nobody is even going to read the words I wrote today.  (This draft will go through A LOT of editing before anybody would even want to read it!)

So why did I write when it would have been easier to do nothing?

Because I have made a choice to do something about my dream of being an author.  This dream ‘fits’ me because it allows me to use my natural strengths and abilities.  That’s what makes writing fun for me.

You have the power to make that same choice.  You have the power to choose to do what you dream every regular ordinary day.  You don’t have to wait for someone to give you permission.  You don’t have to wait until you’re old enough.  You don’t have to wait until you know enough.

You can start NOW.  You can always find a way to do what you dream when you stick to your strengths.

So go.  Find something you love to do and go do it.  Turn your regular ordinary day into a Dream Doer Day!

To your dreams,
Bonnie Jean

It’s Champion Time

Your Dream Doer Mission:  Find a Way to DO What You Dream Today

When I got home from my job at Starbucks this afternoon, I had a horrible, horrible headache.  All I wanted to do what curl up and take a nap and make the headache go away.

But I really want to be able to run an 8:00 mile on Saturday, so I needed to practice running some sprints today.  That’s why I got into my running gear, laced up my sneakers and made myself run.

I did what I didn’t want to do because I knew it would help me reach my running goal for this week.  When you do what you don’t want to do because you know it’s the right thing for you to do, that, my friend, is called ‘Champion Time.’

Champion Time is the time you spend out of your comfort zone pushing yourself to be a little bit better and a little bit stronger than you believed you could be.

Champion Time is the time you spend being passionate, being disciplined, being focused, being courageous and being consistent.

Champion Time is the time you spend finding a way to live your dreams.

For instance, my headache did not go away after my run.  Still, I knew I wanted to write at least five pages of my novel today to help me get closer to my weekly goal of writing 25 pages of my novel.

So even though I once again didn’t feel like doing what I knew I should do—writing—I sat down at my computer and wrote anyway.

That’s when the strangest thing happened.  When I was in the ‘Champion Zone’ as a writer, I got so absorbed in my story that I forgot about my headache.  That’s how I ended up writing nine pages of my novel in 90 minutes.  What fun progress!

Did you set aside some Champion Time for you today?  How did you find a way to live your dreams?

To your dreams,
Bonnie Jean

What are Your Goals This Week?

On January 18, 2010, in Live Your Dreams, by Bonnie Jean Schaefer

Ahhhh…Monday.  The fresh start of a fresh week.

And one of the best things you can do for yourself today is to decide what you want to accomplish by Saturday.

I have three main goals this week:

  • Write at least 25 pages on my novel.
  • Run three 8:00-minute miles on Saturday.
  • Record a video for you that shares my secret confidence building formula.

I’ve already started on the first goal.  I outlined the section of my novel that I want to write this week, so I’ll be ready to start writing like crazy tomorrow.

I’ll be doing strength and cardio workouts everyday to prepare to hit my fitness goal on Saturday.

I have a script for the video written, but I’ll need to edit it before I record anything.

In other words, I didn’t just set goals for this week; I also created an action plan.  That means I know what I need to do in order to hit all my goals.

Setting goals and creating an action plan is a good start, but a Champion Dream Doer actually follows through and TAKES ACTION.

Are you a Champion Dream Doer?  What goals are you going to achieve this week?  What is your action plan to make them happen?

Now that you’ve got that figured out, go TAKE ACTION!

To your dreams,
Bonnie Jean
